*Motorist hospitalized after fiery crash in Frederick County

WINCHESTER -- A motorist was hospitalized Monday afternoon after the Jeep Cherokee he was driving was struck head-on by a Chevrolet Impala in the 1400 block of Apple Pie Ridge Road.

Emergency crews were called at 12:58 p.m. after the Jeep crashed through a fence, landed on its roof in a field and caught fire, according to state police. The driver was taken to Winchester Medical Center by ambulance and could not immediately be identified.

Charles Woodson, 43, of Winchester, who was driving the Impala, suffered injuries that were not life threatening. State police Trooper R.D. Riggs charged Woodson with reckless driving. The front end of his car was smashed.

Frederick County emergency crews from Clear Brook, Round Hill and Gainesboro responded.
