WINCHESTER -- Shenandoah University will graduate its class of 2011 during a ceremony Saturday afternoon in the Smith Library Plaza in the center of main campus.
The university has 839 candidates for degrees in this year's class, including 256 who graduated in December 2010 and are entitled to walk in the May ceremony, according to a Shenandoah University news release. The commencement ceremony begins at 2 p.m., with the processional of candidates for degrees, faculty and administrators starting at 1:45 p.m.
During Saturday's ceremony, Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons will award the President's Medal to Wilbur M. Feltner. As one of the local community leaders who worked to move Shenandoah to Winchester from Dayton in 1960, Feltner has been an active supporter of the university for many years, the news release states.
The annual baccalaureate service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight in Armstrong Concert Hall. This nondenominational service is designed to be a time when graduates and their families can relax, reflect and rejoice while enjoying beautiful music and meaningful words, the news release states.
