GORE -- A Tuesday crash on U.S. 50 left the driver of a pickup dead and sent another person to a local hospital.
State police Sgt. F.L. Tyler said the crash occurred three-tenths of a mile east of Fairview Road, in western Frederick County, at about 4 p.m.
Tyler said an eastbound 1998 GMC dump truck, which was pulling a low-boy trailer with a piece of equipment on its back, was involved in the crash along with a westbound 2004 Ford F-250.
"It appears the pickup crossed the center line and struck the dump truck head on," Tyler said. "The driver of the pickup died at the scene."
Tyler said the driver of the dump truck was transported to Winchester Medical Center.
The roadway was closed for about 3 1/2 hours following the crash, Tyler said.
About an hour after the crash, traffic was at a standstill and backed up beyond sight of the incident on the winding section of road close to the West Virginia border.
The crash is being investigated by trooper D.J. Scott, Tyler said. He said the names of those involved in the crash are being withheld pending notification of family.
Frederick County crews from Gore, Round Hill and Gainesboro responded.
