WINCHESTER -- The Frederick County Sheriff's Office has identified the man found dead this week outside the Martin's in Stonewall Plaza Shopping Center as Paul Raymond Thomas, 48, of Jefferson, Md.
A caller who had eaten his lunch in his car several spots from Thomas' vehicle on Monday called the Sheriff's Office after smelling a strong odor -- which he attributed to a nearby trash bin -- and noticing the car's registration was expired, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Jennifer Bailey saw Thomas' body in the back seat of his 2001 Ford Expedition, it says.
An autopsy performed Wednesday didn't determine the cause of death, and medical examiners are awaiting the results of blood and toxicology tests, the release says.
Thomas' girlfriend had reported him missing to the Frederick County, Md., Sheriff's Office on March 4, and failed to alert them when he returned home later that day, the release says. He then left March 5 to visit family in Manassas.
According to the release, Thomas was wanted in Stafford County on charges filed March 4 for failing to appear in court on charges of driving under the influence and felony hit and run.
