STEPHENS CITY -- A two-vehicle crash in southeast Frederick County sent both drivers to hospitals Thursday morning.
A 2002 Oldsmobile sedan struck a 2007 International tractor-trailer at the intersection of Front Royal Pike (U.S. 522) and Miranto Manor near Tasker Road head on at about 8:40 a.m., according to Sgt. F.L. Tyler, public information officer with the Virginia State Police.
Rescue workers transported the driver of the Oldsmobile, Jacqueline Sabrina Jennings, 40, of White Post, by helicopter to Inova hospital in Fairfax, Tyler said. Responders took the tractor-trailer driver, Roger W. Weatherholt, 40, of Front Royal, to Winchester Medical Center by ambulance, according to Tyler.
Deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office assisted state police at the scene.
Jennings ran the red light while traveling eastbound toward Front Royal Pike, Tyler said. The Oldsmobile struck the tractor-trailer head on as it turned left on Miranto Manor from Front Royal Pike. The tractor-trailer was traveling northbound and had the green arrow to make the turn.
Deputies closed both southbound lanes of Front Royal Pike between Tasker Road and Miranto Manor and detoured traffic around the crash site.
Charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation by Trooper J.A. Wade, Tyler said.
