WINCHESTER -- Two out-of-state residents were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Va. 522 (North Frederick Pike) Friday night, according to the state police.
Dominick C. Grippo, 73, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and his passenger, Irma Irizarry, 67, of Danbury, Conn., died at the scene of the 10:30 p.m. crash, Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler said.
He said Grippo was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry on Chestnut Grove Road (Va. 681) when he pulled onto North Frederick Pike, into the path of a 2004 Ford F-350 heading north. The Camry was struck in the driver's side door and ended up in the median.
Tyler said Grippo had his seat belt on, but Irizarry didn't. Neither the pickup's driver, Scott L. Sweeney, 47, of Cross Junction, nor his passenger, Tracy Sweeney, 42, were injured, he said.
