BERRYVILLE -- A single-vehicle crash in Clarke County late Thursday morning sent a Winchester man to a Fairfax hospital.
A Volkswagen Jetta traveling northbound on U.S. 340 shortly before noon veered off the road to the right and went into a ditch just south of Va. 611, according to Sgt. F.L. Tyler, public information officer with the Virginia State Police. The car struck a utility pole and then a fence, Tyler said.
Emergency workers from John H. Enders and Blue Ridge volunteer fire and rescue crews responded. The 42-year-old driver, Clinton Jordan, was taken by medical helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital, Tyler said. Jordan's condition Thursday afternoon was not known, according to Tyler.
Officers with the Clarke County Sheriff's Office and the Berryville Police Department assisted at the crash scene.
Trooper J.F. Williams responded to the crash, which remains under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, Tyler said. It has not been determined whether the driver wore a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to Tyler.
