STEPHENS CITY -- A Stephens City townhome was left uninhabitable on Sunday after the owner drove a vehicle into the front of the structure, according to police.
Joyce Smith, of 948 Filbert St., drove a 2005 Nissan SUV into the main level "brick portion" of the townhome around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Stephens City patrolman Christopher Smedley said. An unidentified minor child was a passenger in the vehicle, he said.
Smith told authorities she "mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake," Smedley said.
Smith was evaluated by emergency personnel at the scene, but was not injured, he said.
A Frederick County building inspector determined the residence to be uninhabitable.
Smedley estimated damage to the vehicle to be about $1,000.
No charges are pending at this time, he said.
