Statement: Accused admitted to stealing, torturing young pet

FRONT ROYAL -- A man faces multiple misdemeanor and one felony charge after allegedly torturing and killing a woman's cat.

Mark C. Lockerby, 19, is accused of entering the home of Misty Bolyard, his girlfriend's mother, after previously being denied entry, and stealing, torturing and killing Bolyard's young male cat named LT.

The exact date of the alleged crime is not known, but according to court documents it is estimated to be on or around Aug. 25, 2010.

Heather Bolyard, Lockerby's girlfriend, said in a statement that she was home the day LT was killed. She said that Lockerby was with a friend when she got home and denied him entrance to the residence. He and his friend then allegedly confessed to her that they had taken and killed her mother's cat, and showed her the body of LT near her house, according to Heather Bolyard's statement.

Lockerby, formerly of 707 W. 11th St., Front Royal, is currently out of jail after posting $3,000 secured bond. The conditions of his release include that he must submit to weekly drug tests and avoid all contact with Misty Bolyard and all members of her family.

A General District Court hearing is set for Aug. 16 at 2:15 p.m., but Lockerby also has pending charges in Warren County Juvenile and Domestic Court with a hearing set July 28.

Lockerby is charged with felony breaking and entering as well as three class 1 misdemeanors: petty larceny, animal cruelty, and destruction of property.
