Board seeking interim supervisor

WINCHESTER -- The Frederick County Board of Supervisors needs to appoint someone to represent the Gainesboro District following the resignation of Gary Dove.
Dove resigned from the board this week because he has moved out of the county and thus can't serve in the position. Dove, a Republican, recently announced he would not seek re-election in November to the seat he has held for two four-year terms. Ross Spicer, an assistant prosecutor for the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, has already received the Republican Party nomination to run for the seat in November.
Supervisors Chairman Richard C. Shickle Sr. told board members of Dove's announcement at their meeting Wednesday. Shickle cited a July 22 letter Dove submitted to County Administrator John Riley Jr. in which he states he no longer lives in the locality.
"It has been an honor, a privilege and a pleasure to serve the citizens of Frederick and to work with you and my fellow board members along with all of the employees of Frederick County," the letter states.
The board has 45 days from the receipt of Dove's letter to appoint an interim supervisor for the Gainesboro District through Dec. 31, according Rick Miller, general registrar for the county. Supervisors can appoint any qualified voter who lives in the district, Miller said. A circuit court judge would make the appointment should the board fail to agree on one.
Election Day is Nov. 8.
