County officials mourn Litten

WOODSTOCK -- The Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors will serve as honorary pall bearers at today's funeral for longtime County Attorney Don Litten.

Litten died Sunday at his home in Bridgewater, according to his obituary. He was 81.

His memorial service is at 11 a.m. today at Bridgewater United Methodist Church.

Shenandoah County Administrator Doug Walker said he, former County Administrator Vince Poling and the supervisors have been asked to be honorary pall bearers. He said officials from other local governments Litten worked for are serving in the same capacity.
"I think that really speaks to his love for local government and his regard for public servants," Walker said.

Litten's law firm was hired by the county in 1999, but had done work before then with the Toms Brook and Stony Creek sanitary districts, Walker said.

"We've lost a good friend," District 5 Supervisor Dennis Morris said Tuesday. "He gave a lot of time and a lot of talent that we didn't get charged for. He wanted to do whatever he could to help Shenandoah County."

According to Litten's obituary, he is survived by three children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. It says that rather than attend law school, he trained under an attorney before passing the state bar exam.
