FRONT ROYAL -- Two events, "Warren County Day" and "Dancin' in the Streets," will be held as a part of the county's 175th anniversary celebration this month.
"Dancin' in the Streets" will be held July 16 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Main Street. The local band Souled Out will perform at the gazebo commons. Admission is $5, and children under 6 years old are admitted free of charge. Food and drinks, including some alcoholic beverages, will be available for purchase.
Main Street will be closed for the event and blocked off at Chester Street, right before the gazebo parking lot entrance, and then at Cloud Street. The closing will probably start around 3 p.m., according to Front Royal Tourism Director Jennifer Keck, and be opened up again shortly after the event ends.
Don Lafever, from the Front Royal tourism office, said officials expect around 2,000 people at the event.
Warren County Day will take place July 23 at the Skyline Soccerplex off of Kerfoot Avenue. The event is free to the public, and will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 6 p.m.
The day's events will include performances by Steve Foster's famous trained mule, Amazing Grace; live music; a food and crafts festival; U.S. Customs dog demonstration; an antique car show, as well as many more family-friendly activities.
According to Keck, the event is expected to draw between 5,000 and 10,000 people.
These events are part of a yearlong celebration of Warren County's 175th anniversary. The actual anniversary day was March 9, but Keck said the county will continue to celebrate all year and host events.
"The last time they did anything [like Warren County Day] was for the 150th [anniversary]."
To offset some of the costs of the celebratory events, Warren County merchandise is now for sale commemorating the 175th anniversary. Flags, pins, ornaments and more can be found on the county website, www.warrencountyva.net.
