MIDDLETOWN -- Authorities investigating a woman's abduction and rape in town last week are awaiting test results on items they've recovered in the case.
Middletown Police Chief Phil Breeden said Wednesday his department continues to investigate the incident that is alleged to have occurred sometime between 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. July 13. Investigators hope testing on the items reveal DNA evidence which may help solve the case, Breeden said.
"We, at the Middletown Police Department, take very seriously the acts of rape and sodomy, and, we're gonna work this case very diligently until we come to a conclusion on the case, wherever that conclusion may lead us," Breeden said.
"It's not just this particular case but any case where we have a victim, whether it be female or male who report such a horrendous crime to us, we take very seriously," the chief added.
Unidentified male suspects traveling in a green pickup of unknown make and model pulled up beside the victim at the Middletown Liberty gas station on Reliance Road, Breeden said. The 25-year-old woman from Gore was at her older white Pontiac Bonneville when the suspects forced her into the pickup and drove to a residence in an unknown location, according to Breeden.
The suspects tied down the victim and repeatedly raped and sodomized her, Breeden has stated. The suspects then dropped her on the side of the road along U.S. 11 north of Lord Fairfax Community College.
The victim did not have to be hospitalized, Breeden said. The chief declined to comment further on the extent of her injuries because of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities also have now identified two people "of interest and solely interest" in the case. The chief stressed these people are not suspects and it will take further investigation to determine whether they or others are connected to the case.
Anyone who may have seen either the suspect vehicle or the victim's car in the area of the Liberty station during the hours as reported is asked to contact Middletown police detective Mike Tennant at 868-0535.
