*Oranda sinkhole repairs slated to begin Monday

By Preston Knight -- pknight@nvdaily.com

STRASBURG -- Traffic will again be impacted beginning Monday as a crew works to repair a recurring sinkhole on Oranda Road.

The area, less than a mile west of U.S. 11 and near Carmeuse Lime & Stone, has twice been repaired in the last two years. The latest sinkhole, on the shoulder of the road, has a diameter of 10 feet with a depth of about 10 feet, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation press release. Repairs will begin Monday at 7 a.m. and last through Friday, forcing that portion of Oranda Road to a single lane.

The sinkhole will be excavated and repaired by General Excavation Inc. using a rock and concrete mix, back-filling it with stone and then topping it with a clay and topsoil combination, the release states.
