Daily Staff Report

HARRISONBURG -- Woodstock Police Chief Bryan Hutcheson won the Republican nomination for Rockingham County sheriff during a primary election Tuesday, according to David Lee, the locality's GOP chairman.

Voter tallies were not tabulated until about 10:30 p.m. Lee said Hutcheson received 2,963 votes, while Kurt Boshart, a lieutenant with the Harrisonburg Police Department, had 2,414 votes.

Hutcheson advances to face independent C.M. Hess, a Rockingham County Sheriff's Office major, in the November election.
