STRASBURG -- Traffic will again be affected beginning today as a crew repairs a recurring sinkhole on Oranda Road.
The area, less than a mile west of U.S. 11 and near Carmeuse Lime & Stone, has twice been repaired in the last two years. The latest sinkhole, on the shoulder of the road, has a diameter of 10 feet with a depth of about 10 feet, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation news release. Repairs will begin at 7 a.m. Monday and last through Friday, reducing that portion of Oranda Road to a single lane.
The sinkhole will be excavated and repaired by General Excavation Inc. using a rock and concrete mix, backfilling it with stone and then topping it with a clay and topsoil combination, the release states.
