FRONT ROYAL -- The survivor of a fatal motorcycle crash in Warren County Saturday remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Michael David Smith, 38, of Moorefield, W.Va., is a patient at Inova Fairfax Hospital in critical condition, spokesman Tony Raker says in a Wednesday e-mail.
Rescue workers took Smith to the hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in a single-vehicle crash Saturday at about 4:15 p.m., according to Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler, public information officer with the state police.
Smith was a passenger on the 2007 Suzuki motorcycle that crashed on a private drive near Reliance Road in Warren County. The motorcycle veered off Carley's Way to the left and struck a utility pole. The impact knocked Smith and the operator, Stefany Marie Robertson, 38, of Middletown, off of the motorcycle, Tyler said, citing the crash reports.
Neither Robertson nor Smith wore helmets, according to Tyler.
Rescue workers took Robertson to Warren Memorial Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead at 5:15 p.m., Tyler said. Responders transported Smith by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Trooper S.A. Sutherland investigated the crash.
