WINCHESTER -- The Frederick County Board of Supervisors has filled a vacancy with a candidate running for election to the panel in November.
The board voted at its regular meeting Wednesday to appoint Ross Spicer to represent the Gainesboro District. Spicer, whose appointment lasts until the end of 2011, fills the position formerly held by Gary Dove, who resigned from the board in late July.
Dove notified officials by letter he no longer lives in the county and thus had to resign. Dove, a Republican, already had announced he intended to not run for re-election to a third four-year term on the board.
The Frederick County Republican Party, at its mass meeting days prior to Dove's resignation, nominated Spicer to run as a candidate for the Gainesboro District. He faced no opposition by other party members at the nomination event.
County registrar Rick Miller said the board could appoint any eligible voter in the Gainesboro District to fill Dove's position in the interim.
