Police: Champion arrested for DUI early Sunday
|
FRONT ROYAL -- Impact Wrestling champion Kurt Angle was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence following a performance at the Shenandoah County Fair, according to state police spokesman Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler.
Tyler said police received a third-party call of a vehicle headed eastbound on Interstate 66 that was swerving "all over the road."
Trooper C.R. Scally stopped the vehicle at mile marker 13 at 11:10 p.m. Saturday, Tyler said. Angle was later transported to the Warren County Jail.
Tyler said police could not release what Angle's blood-alcohol level was when he was stopped.
Angle won a gold medal as an amateur wrestler at the 1996 Olympics and is now a star for Impact Wrestling, a professional circuit formerly known as TNA that airs on Spike TV.
He defeated his opponent, A.J. Styles, on Saturday night at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds.
