MT. JACKSON -- A fire destroyed a small building early Friday morning at 594 North Mountain Road, Timberville Fire Chief Wes Henkel said.
The fire was at about 12:30 a.m. near the Rockingham County line, he said.
"It was all burned up by the time we got there," Henkel said. "Really nothing left but the post inside the building and the pile of hay burning."
There were horses on the property, but they were outside the barn in a field, he said.
The department remained on the scene for about 21⁄2 hours, Henkel said.
"The wind was blowing and it was kind of blowing the embers from the hay burning," he said.
Henkel said it was fortunate no other buildings were nearby.
