City resident accused after reports of images being found on borrowed hard drive

WINCHESTER -- Authorities have accused a city man of having child pornography after a person reported finding images on a hard drive borrowed from the suspect.

Police arrested Daniel Edward Chrisman, 52, of 417 Gray Ave., on Tuesday and charged him with three counts of possession of child pornography. However, further charges are pending against Chrisman, according to Winchester police Sgt. Frank Myrtle.

Chrisman remains held at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center on a $15,000 secured bond, according to jail records.

Officers responded to the 400 block of Gray Avenue for a report from a person who said an external hard drive, borrowed from a resident at 417 Gray Ave., contained possible child pornography, Myrtle stated in a press release issued Thursday.

An affidavit filed for the warrant to search the home states the person who reported the matter to police borrowed the hard drive from Chrisman and another resident, identified as 57-year-old Paul Christopher Chrisman. The elder Chrisman is not charged in the investigation, Myrtle said.

"While browsing through the external hard drive, the [reporting party] located child pornography and contacted the Winchester Police Department immediately," the affidavit states. "The external hard drive was turned over to the WPD and some of the files were viewed by your Affiant and deemed to be child pornography."

Investigators responded to assist, and then executed a warrant obtained to search 417 Gray Ave., and to seize any other related equipment. A search warrant inventory indicates investigators seized four computers; four external hard drives, including the one containing suspected child pornography; an Apple iPad; Apple iPod; a digital video camera; and dozens of CD-Rs and DVD-Rs. The investigator also seized two smoking devices with residue, a top to a bowl with residue, a white ceramic bowl with a grinding bar, a small black container with residue, and two pieces of burnt aluminum foil suspected as drug paraphernalia.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities ask that anyone with information about the case contact the Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at 545-4707 or Crime Solvers at 665-8477 (TIPS).
