WINCHESTER -- Representatives of H.N. Funkhouser and Co. of Winchester awarded grants totaling $10,000 to the principals of each of Frederick County's public schools Tuesday.
For the past 11 years, the company has secured the grants through the ExxonMobil Education Alliance for the school system. In the 2001-02 school year, nine of the schools received grants of $500 each. This year, the alliance is providing $500 grants to each of the 18 schools, in addition to the Senseny Road School and the Dowell J. Howard Center.
Since that first year, H.N. Funkhouser and Co. has helped to secure more than $93,000 for Frederick County schools.
The grants through the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance, offered to Exxon and Mobil retailers, are meant for math and science programs.
