EDINBURG -- An unexpected detour to an Edinburg gas station paid off for a New York woman.
Lindsay Ghostlaw, 29, of Massena, N.Y., and her boyfriend stopped Sunday at the Bo's Belly Barn off the Interstate 81 exit to keep an eye on a repaired flat tire, according to a news release from the Virginia Lottery.
While there, she bought a $5 Win for Life scratcher, it says. They were back on the road when she scratched off the ticket and realized she'd won the top prize of $1,000 a week for life.
"It took me to Maryland to get him to turn around," the release quotes Ghostlaw as saying about her skeptical boyfriend.
The release says Ghostlaw is studying dental hygiene and will use the winnings to pay off her and her boyfriend's student loans.
The gas station will get a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.
