One dead when pickup overturns

CONICVILLE -- An early Monday morning crash claimed the life of a Basye man, according to state police.

Jon David Hargett Jr., 45, was driving a 2006 Ford F-350 north on Va. 42 (Senedo Road) just north of Va. 711 (Lutz Hollow Road) at about 4 a.m., when he ran off the right side of the road, over-corrected, drove off the left side of the road, and then drove through a wire fence and into a field, where the pickup overturned, state police spokesman Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler said.

Hargett, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck, and died at the scene, Tyler said.

Alcohol did not seem to be a factor but speed did, Tyler said.
