* Phone glitch disrupts Va. jobless calls

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Employment Commission says some unemployment benefit checks could be a day late because an 800 number used by recipients to certify their claims was down for an extended period.
The commission's Sharon Worthy says Verizon crews tracked the problem early Tuesday to a crushed fiber tube in downtown Richmond. She says the line that had been down since Sunday is now operational.
Worthy says the call center usually handles 3,500 calls on a Monday, when people collecting unemployment benefits check in to tell of their efforts to find a job. Jobless recipients can also make those weekly checks online or by visiting one of the VEC offices statewide.
Worthy says no checks will be withheld because of the phone problem but some checks could arrive a day late.

Gone are the days when they had to mail it in and wait 2 weeks for a check or visit the Employment office or even make actual contacts.
Now they just dial it in and sit on their buts and serf the internet and say, I can't find work. No crap, I wouldn't hire anyone that contacted me on the internet either.
This economy has weeded out the people that want to work from most that want to sponge off the government.
Clunker you sure are showing your age and your company must have been left in the last century. My company won't accept any resumes that aren't sent over the internet nor do we accept phone calls on positions and walk-ins are not welcomed. Valley Health Systems is a perfect example, the only way to apply with them in online. Monster an CareerBuilder both link applicants to company websites which they must apply through in order to be considered.
Unless you are talking about a job sweeping the floor or cleaning toilets, companies expect to be approach via the internet. It is after all the 21st century.
