Bond denied in firearm theft case

WINCHESTER -- A Frederick County man accused of breaking into a city home and stealing several guns Tuesday remains jailed on bond.
Jerry Wayne Canfield Jr., 34, of 1083 Laurel Grove Road, appeared in Winchester General District Court on Thursday via video from the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center on charges of grand larceny and burglary. He received a $3,000 secured bond.
Winchester police detective C.W. Coleman states in an affidavit for a warrant to search 621 Patterson Ave. that a woman picked Canfield up in the 500 block of Fremont Street.
Canfield put a blanket in her vehicle and she saw a black handgun in his waistband, Coleman stated. They met two unidentified black men and went to a Patterson Avenue home. Canfield later left the house with just the blanket. He and the driver drove to the Sheetz on Va. 7 where Canfield dumped the blanket in a trash can.
A criminal complaint states Canfield asked the alleged victim before the burglary to "help him with some guys down the street he was having problems with" but he refused. The complaint states police found the blanket and video shows Canfield dumping it. The victim said muddy footprints by where he stores guns match those left by Canfield earlier.
