FRONT ROYAL -- Police responded to a report of domestic dispute Wednesday evening that escalated into a man barricading himself inside a home.
The Warren County Sheriff's Office received a call from a resident at 88 Signal Hill Lane that his son and his son's girlfriend were fighting, Sgt. Jason Poe said.
Poe said that officers on the scene were told the son was in the basement with a shotgun.
Poe was able to confirm the girlfriend had left the scene. Police asked the parents to leave the house and the son locked the door behind them.
"He pretty much barricaded himself inside the house," Poe said. "He was in a ramble and rant and said he was going to kill himself."
The son, identified as Carlin Kulp, 21, of Front Royal, called 911 and spoke with a communications officer who was able to calm him down, Poe said. He came out of the residence with his hands in the air, Poe said.
There were no injuries. No charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation, according to Poe.
