TOMS BROOK -- A man has been charged with abduction after he held his mother against her will and used her credit card to buy alcohol, according to the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office.
On Sunday around 4 p.m., deputies received a 911 call from a woman traveling on Interstate 81. Lt. Darcy Dellinger said the caller said she was exiting the highway at the Love's Travel Stop near Toms Brook, and that her son was in the back seat asleep.
Dellinger reported that the caller also informed dispatchers that her son was wanted in Henrico County for larceny.
Travis Wayne Vance, 25, of 1724 Willow Brook Road, Bumpass, was taken into custody at the truck stop and charged with abduction with the intent to extort money.
According to Dellinger, Vance's mother said that at no time during the incident did she feel as if she could leave her son's presence. Vance has a court date Feb. 23 at 9 a.m.
