FRONT ROYAL -- A 16-year-old boy sustained severe injuries Wednesday morning after the Ford pickup he was driving went off the road and struck a tree, authorities said.
The crash occurred on Browntown Road near the intersection with Rocky Lane, according to Capt. Raymond Cross of Warren County Fire and Rescue. Units were called to the scene at 8:14 a.m., he said.
Cross had no information on the identity of the victim.
It took 15-20 minutes to extricate the victim, he said. The boy was then airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
"He was in critical condition," Cross said.
A state police spokesman said the boy was the lone occupant of the pickup. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
