WINCHESTER -- A Shenandoah University student was found with weapons on campus Saturday, but an SU spokeswoman said the matter will be dealt with through university policy.
Sgt. Frank Myrtle with city police confirmed that there is no law against weapons on the university's property, so police are not investigating the incident. City police are holding the weapons because the university cannot safely do so, he said.
Myrtle and Emily Burner, director of media relations at SU, would not comment on what type of weapons were found.
Burner said the university is not releasing any additional details, including the name of the student, what disciplinary action officials are taking, or whether officials searched the student's residence.
She said the weapons were not necessarily found in a dorm room and only confirmed that they were discovered in the student's possession somewhere on campus.
"They were confiscated because that is campus policy," she said.

I think that SUProf owes me an apology.....and SU should have someone on staff that is trained on how to UNLOAD a firearm and put it in a safe. If you have the policy, then have the necessary resources to enforce it, as the police pointed out, they could not charge him with anything. Now the police department has taken on the liability for disarming a citizen, and keeping his weapon without cause.
A strange article.
An unknown weapon, found in an unknown place, and owned by an unknown person was found on campus.
These unknowns are of no interest to the police.
This is probably of interest to as yet unknown people.

"Confiscation" of an apparently lawfully possessed item?
This leaves the college open to a lawsuit for damages, attorneys fees, and injunctive relief, and it's officials on the hook for criminal liability.
Why is Shenandoah University captive to our backwater ways of genuflecting before firearms??? This is DISGUSTING!!! Thank goodness my children are students and Harvard and Duke, rather than Shenandoah University, a truly unenlightened outfit... reflective of our ignominious history as a commonwealth that closed schools rather than integrate... We are stuck in the 1950s.
yeah well this is what happens in a gunn-loving society. Instead of focusing on learning, so as to get ahead and not have to rely on outfits like the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging (HAHAHAHAHA), you have kids and parents obsessed with guns... reap what you sow
I can own a gun or two and also learn to make a good living at the same time thank you.
MBC Alumna, My apologies for being "backwater and disgusting" but my rights as a citizen to possess and carry a firearm are spelled out quite clearly in our beloved Constitution. Being a law-biding citizen I am also permitted to carry a concealed weapon. Here's hoping that you or yours are never in a situation where you are in need of help or emergency assistance, but if you do I would be glad to volunteer. I am also a volunteer fireman.
one of those volunteer firemen at Shenandoah Farms where $4,800 plus in diving equipment turned up in the Bahamas??? HAHAHAHAHA
Is it a teacher's work day again today or something?
School day off?
You can vote for him again in Nov.
Oh, hi, how are you, would you like some tea, this tea is the best, it's Obama tea!
Harvard and Duke.....lol. What a yuppie. It is not where you go to school.....it is what you DO with your education. I have an AAS from Lord Fairfax, am self-employed, and do not care if I have a McMansion, 5 cars, 3.7 kids, a financial portfolio. Your kids come out of an IVY League puke school, and owe 3 house payments already. That's is ok, because they get off on telling people they went to Haaaarvaad......
What a vicious and unwarranted remark to make to someone. Frankly I'm surprised that it made it by the blogmaster. I suppose if you can't respond with logic you can always revert to negative attack. Have a nice day.
"alumna" means "graduate" - i.e., not in school anymore - check your dictionary, honey, IF you have one HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
