EDINBURG -- An Edinburg man has been arrested for Friday's hit-and-run of a Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office cruiser.
Tommy Smith, 60, of 15718 Senedo Road, was arrested Sunday and charged with felony hit and run, Lt. Wesley Dellinger said. He said Smith is being held without bond in the Shenandoah County Jail.
Smith is accused of crossing into the path of a cruiser, striking the rear quarter panel with a Dodge Dakota.
"The deputy drove out of the way to avoid a head-on collision," Maj. Scott Proctor said Friday. "The deputy was not able to pursue the vehicle."
He said the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria's emergency gas shut off was activated in the crash.
Dellinger said the car sustained $2,000 worth of damage. He said Smith is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on April 13.
