QUICKSBURG -- Counselors and psychologists have been brought in to Ashby Lee Elementary School to help students come to terms with the weekend death of a classmate, Superintendent Keith Rowland said.
Truman Wine died in a fire with his father, Jeff, and a third man, the boy's mother, Holly Kennedy, said Monday morning.
"He was a very happy kid, very smart and intelligent," she said. "He loved to go to school. He loved to come play with his sister so they could be outside. He was just amazing.
"I'm speechless right now. It's still feeling like it's a dream, that this really didn't happen, even though in reality I know it did. I'm just trying to cope one day at a time."
Rowland said he visited Truman's classmates on Monday.
"It was very solemn in there," he said. "It's hard for fourth-graders. You have to reach out to them as well because you know they're hurting."
Kennedy said a card/donation shower had been set up for her on Facebook.
