WINCHESTER -- Darren Scott Heflin, 41, of 357 Shenandoah Ave., appeared in Winchester Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Monday via video from the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.
Heflin is charged with abduction and domestic assault, both felonies. Judge Elizabeth
Kellas ordered Heflin held without bond and set his preliminary hearing on the charges for March 7.
During a standoff with city police, Heflin's wife was able to safely escape from the residence.
Officers responded to the couple's home around midnight Saturday after receiving reports of a domestic incident, Sgt. Frank Myrtle of the Winchester Police Department said. They spoke with the wife and determined that a domestic assault had occurred, but Heflin was not home at the time. After receiving information that Heflin had arrived home, police responded back to the residence around 1 a.m. to serve the arrest warrant.
Heflin then forced his wife to stay in the home and police units were not able to make contact with either party. The man continued to refuse to exit the home after multiple attempts by police to contact him until roughly 4:15 a.m., when Heflin was arrested, Myrtle said.
