FORT VALLEY -- An overnight fire destroyed a home on Boliver Road and sent one resident to the hospital Friday.
The fire at 2758 Boliver Road was called in at about 12:45 a.m., Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue Chief Gary Yew said. He said the first fire truck arrived on the scene about 13 minutes later.
"When the fire department arrived, the house was fully involved," Yew said. "Several other buildings and a vehicle were also burning. The fire department had to concentrate their efforts on saving some of the exposures that surrounded the home."
Three sheds were threatened, county Fire Marshal David Ferguson said. He said fire damaged two vehicles on the property.
Four people were inside the trailer with an attached addition when one woke up and discovered the fire, Ferguson said. He then alerted the others.
"There were no smoke detectors inside the residence," Ferguson said. "I can't stress enough how important that it is to have working smoke detectors. They're very fortunate that this gentleman had woke up for some other reason and then noticed the fire."
While the two men and two women got out of the home, one suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Ferguson said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
"We've been working all through the whole day here, investigating the scene," Ferguson said Friday afternoon.
The Red Cross is assisting the family, he said.
Ferguson said the home was a total loss, but he did not have a damage estimate.
Besides the county, fire and rescue crews from Fort Valley, Woodstock, Strasburg, Edinburg and Toms Brook responded to the scene, according to a news release from John Collins, the department's public information officer.

This was my parents and sisters house. I feel so helpless in trying to figure out what to do for them. I would not wish this on anyone!!
