Rating affirmed
Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury reported it received a bond rating of BBB+ from Fitch Ratings for the second consecutive year.
The rating reflects the credit profile of revenue bonds for the Winchester retirement community issued by the City of Winchester's Industrial Development Authority.
The bonds include about $34.4 million in residential-care facilities fixed-rate revenue bonds, series 2005A and about $10.9 million residential in variable-rate bonds, series 2005B.
Workforce aid
Paul D. Camp Community College will expand its warehouse- and distribution-operations certificate thanks to Valley Proteins' fourth annual Award for Workforce Development.
The $10,000 award supports workforce development programs at Virginia's community colleges in the areas of environmental science, commercial truck driving, heating and air conditioning, and office technology in regions where the company has rendering operations.
The Winchester-based firm operates 12 plants in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
Safety awards
Two Frazier Quarry workers were recognized for 25 years of safe service in the mining industry without a lost-time accident.
Kevin Hinkle and Jimmy Riggleman were presented with the Virginia Mine Safety Award on Jan. 25 by the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance.
Hinkle is quality control technician and Riggleman is a plant foreman at the quarry in Harrisonburg.
Monthly coffee
Marquetta Mitchell, financial adviser with Edward Jones, is holding a monthly coffee Wednesday at Christina's Cafe, 219 W. King St., Strasburg.
A presentation on current events in the market and economy will be followed by an informal discussion.
