STRASBURG -- Authorities say a Toms Brook man drove drunk and struck a Strasburg police officer standing on the side of a road in town early Sunday morning.
State Trooper C.S. Kline charged David Alan Ebert, no age provided, of 56 Cecilia Court, with hit and run and driving under the influence, a third or subsequent offense, both felonies, according to a news release issued Tuesday by Strasburg Police Chief Tim Sutherly.
Strasburg police officer Charles Baker was conducting an interview on the side of the road when a van's mirror struck him as the vehicle traveled west on King Street at about 1:20 a.m., the release states. Baker was able to return to his vehicle and then stopped the van at Stover and Orchard streets. State police then took over the investigation because of the Strasburg officer's involvement, according to the release.
Baker suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Winchester Medical Center, the release states.

Thank God Officer Baker was not seriously hurt. Let's see what the Shenandoah County Commonwealth Attorneys Office does with this case. Hopefully we will not be disappointed with a plea agreement. Take this case to trial and let the jury decide Mr. Ebert's fate.
Thank luck. You know there is good luck and bad luck. If your going to give God credit for being there to help, should he also be responsible for putting an impaired driver on the road. Then having the officer pull the car over and get out of his car just as the impaired driver approached to put his life in jeopardy in the first place?
Touche' Point taken
In essence my comment is that what police do and where they do it is inherently dangerous they need the support of the judicial system, and the community.
Got it. Of course there are different circumstances on whether to accept a plea or not, but I did read the new C.A. was on the high end of sentencing guidelines on the plea agreed upon in the Medford Steed case recently. Hopefully that will continue to be the case!
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
