Police investigate string of break-ins

The Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office is investigating a string of break-ins officials believe may be connected.

Five burglaries are thought to have occurred between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday, Maj. Scott Proctor said.

They occurred in the 4000 block of Wolf Gap Road, Edinburg; the 200 block of Spring House Lane, Woodstock, the 400 block of Johnstown Road, Edinburg; the 800 block of Black Bear Road, Maurertown; and the 1800 block of Artz Road, Woodstock, he said.

Forced entry was made into at least four of the homes, he said.

"The houses are being ransacked," Proctor said.

While nothing was taken from two of the homes, loose coins and cash, jewelry and a .22-caliber handgun were taken from the others, he said.

In some cases, suspects in the area have been questioned by passersby and said they were in the neighborhood looking for a pet or person, Proctor said.

He said it's thought two to three men are involved, he said.

Proctor asked that anyone who spots a suspicious person or vehicle report it to authorities.
"We would much rather come out and answer a call that ends up being a non-crime than to take the chance of missing the criminal," Proctor said.
