WINCHESTER -- The Virginia Department of Transportation expects to start work on the Senseny Road bridge over Interstate 81 later this month.
VDOT announced Friday that crews would begin bridge deck replacement Feb. 27. All work depends on the weather. VDOT has scheduled the completion of the project for mid-August.
Work would limit traffic to a single, 10.5-foot lane on the bridge managed with temporary signals, according to a news release. Motorists should expect delays in this area, VDOT advised.
The bridge crosses I-81 between exit 313 at Millwood Pike and exit 315 at Berryville Pike. Motorists also can expect shoulder and intermittent nighttime lane closures under the bridge throughout the project work, according to VDOT. Nighttime lane closures begin the week of Feb. 20 to allow crews to install barriers for the shoulder closings.
The work on Senseny Road, valued at $1 million, comes as part of a larger design-build contract to rehabilitate several bridges in the area.
