WINCHESTER -- State police apprehended a Fairfax County man in Frederick County after a high-speed chase that spanned four counties and almost 12 hours.
The pursuit began at 2:45 a.m. in Prince William County, where police attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving, according to state police spokesman Sergeant F. L. "Les" Tyler.
The vehicle, a dark blue 1997 Nissan Maxima, continued westbound on Interstate 66 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was later seen by a state trooper in Fauquier County who continued the pursuit.
Tyler said the chase continued at a speed of 80 to 85, and Warren County Sheriff's Office assisted when the vehicle came into the county.
Frederick County Sheriff's officers laid out a spiked strip as the vehicle approached the intersection and attempted to go northbound on Interstate 81.
State police tried to block the vehicle on the interstate, Tyler said. Two troopers sped in front of the vehicle and then slowed down, attempting to slow it. The vehicle hit both state police cars before stopping.
The driver, William Dorosin, 33, of Fairfax, was taken into custody by state police.
Dorosin was charged with felony eluding of a police officer, according to Tyler.
No injuries were reported, but the total damage to the police cars is estimated at $4,000.
