STRASBURG -- Authorities say a Toms Brook man drove drunk and struck a Strasburg police officer standing on the side of the road in town early Sunday morning.
Virginia Trooper C.S. Kline charged David Alan Ebert, no age given, of 56 Cecilia Court, with hit and run and driving under the influence, a third or subsequent offense, both felonies, according to a news release issued Tuesday by Strasburg police Chief Tim Sutherly.
Strasburg police Officer Charles Baker was conducting an interview on the side of the road when a van's mirror struck him as the vehicle traveled west on King Street at about 1:20 a.m., the release states. Baker was able to return to his vehicle and then stopped the van at Stover and Orchard streets. Virginia State Police then took over the investigation because of the Strasburg officer's involvement, according to the release.
Baker suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Winchester Medical Center, the release states.
