WINCHESTER -- City police are looking for a man they say eluded an officer and struck a traffic sign early Friday morning.
Officer M.L. Shambaugh, of the Winchester Police Department, attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of Berryville Avenue and Pleasant Valley Road shortly before 12:30 a.m., according to a press release from Sgt. T. Schraff. The vehicle, a blue, 1990 BMW sedan, turned on East Street and hit a traffic sign in the area of the cul de sac, according to police.
The driver then left the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, last seen heading west on National Avenue, the release states. More officers responded to the area but were unable to find the suspect, according to the release.
Police describe the suspect as a black male 20 to 25 years old.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at 662-4131 or Crime Solvers at 665-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
