*Woman charged with stabbing dog after being bitten

By Alex Bridges -- abridges@nvdaily.com

WINCHESTER -- Authorities say a Frederick County woman stabbed a dog with a knife after it bit her twice Sunday.

Jacqueline Amanda Russell, 29, of 132 Smith Drive, is charged with cruelty to animals, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in jail. Her trial is set for Feb. 13 in Frederick County General District Court. She remains free on $10,000 unsecured bond.

Deputy Z.A. Hawkins, of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, responded to the Smith Drive residence for a report of a dog bite and upon arriving spoke with Russell, the caller, according to criminal complaint filed in the case.

Russell stated she tried to break up a fight between the dog and a cat in a back bedroom, according to a criminal complaint. Russell told the officer the dog bit her and then she went into the kitchen and retrieved a knife from on top of the refrigerator.

"Mrs. Russell stated that she went back into the bedroom and the dog bit her again," the complaint states. "Mrs. Russell stated that she stabbed the dog and it ran off."

Russell showed the officer where the dog bit her on the hand. Hawkins states Russell's hand appeared red between her thumb and pointer finger and her pinkie finger.

"The dog had an inch-long laceration to his right hind leg," the complaint states. "The dog was transported to the emergency vet where it received medical treatment."

No news however on whether the dog will be charged or held accountable for it's crime; after-all it's just a dog not that it can cause the least bit of harm to anything/one. Hopefully they'll both be required to attend anger mgmt. together will be the outcome.
