Fire department receives grant

WOODSTOCK -- The Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue announced Friday it has recently received nearly $530,000 in grant money.

An Assistance to Firefighters $357,750 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will allow the department to pay 90 percent of the cost of replacing 75 self-contained breathing apparatuses, the release says. The equipment will be used by both volunteers and paid county staff, it says.

Two months ago, the department found out it would get $172,000 from a Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services' Rescue Squad Assistance grant, the release says.
The money will be used to pay 80 percent of the price of a new ambulance in the Toms Brook area, according to the release.
