MAURERTOWN -- A Florida man was arrested recently after he allegedly drove drunk, assaulted two Shenandoah County Sheriff's deputies and damaged a police car.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of Old Schoolhouse and Zion Church roads for a report of a suspicious vehicle shortly after 12:30 a.m. on March 9, Lt. Darcy Dellinger said.
He said a deputy spotted a car, and that led to a traffic stop. The driver, Jeremy Scott Fuqua, 30, of Englewood, Fla., was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, Dellinger said.

Dellinger said Fuqua resisted arrest, and assaulted two deputies. The suspect also knocked off a cruiser's driver's side mirror, as well as dented and scratched the driver's side door, Delinger said. About $1,000 worth of damage was done.

The deputies weren't injured, according to Dellinger.

Besides DUI, Fuqua was charged with driving after his license was revoked, destruction of property and two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer.

A passenger in the car, Holly Leigh Roberts, 27, of 1115 Lakeview Drive, Woodstock, was charged with public intoxication, Dellinger said.

Both Fuqua and Roberts are scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on May 18.
