Proposal would alter grade scale

WINCHESTER -- Frederick County school officials received a report Monday regarding a proposal to change the division's current grading scale to a 10-point system.

Director of Middle and Secondary Instructional Services James Angelo presented the report to the School Board's instruction committee, according to a press release. The proposed 10-point scale would grade as follows: 97-100=A+, 94-96=A, 90-93=A-, 87-89=B+, 84-86=B, 80-83=B-, 77-79= C+, 74-76=C, 70-73=C-, 67-69=D+, 64-66=D, 60-63=D-, 59 and below=F, the press release states.

The board plans to take a vote on the proposal April 17.

I'm no mathematician, but this 10-point scale appears to have 100 points.

Does anyone think it is acceptable for a student to not know 40% of the material (if they get a 60% grade) and earn a passing score?
