Allen throws hat in ring for Town Council

Downtown group board member, "Save Our Town' participant announces candidacy for election

By Kim Walter -- kwalter@nvdaily.com

FRONT ROYAL -- Linda J. Allen has announced her candidacy for Front Royal's Town Council.

Allen is on the Board of Directors for Downtown Front Royal and was involved with the "Save Our Town" effort to move town elections from May to November.

Allen says that she is an "ongoing supporter of tourism" and she believes community hospitality brings business to merchants.

Certain issues that Allen supports include updating the town charter and Leach Run Parkway plan, keeping the town's elections nonpartisan, simplifying the building inspection application process.

New Blood. That is what this election is all about. Kicking out the Good Old Boys and electing new blood. We have got a good selection for Town Council. Mayor? Don't know yet. I haven't made up my mind on that. Going to the Candidates Forum tonight. Will probably make up my mind at the forum. Hope to see a lot of people there!

I believe that anyone that votes to return any of the current towncouncilman to office is making a huge mistake. It's time to clean house. Why? Because my experience is that the present group is afraid to make important decisions which could lead to a better future for Front Royal. They do not ask for the advice and assistance of knowledgeable people before committing to large expenditures, and they have a history of subterfuge, misrepresentation, incompetence, inexperience, and a inability to work together for a common goal. I, personally have been given such a load of cr-p from all these guys for almost two years to simply make a decision whether to pursue a course of action or not. I have lost all trust and faith in anything they say. We need a change and we need it bad.

What candidates forum? When? Where?

Has the NV Daily overlooked an important announcement Front Royal citizens might like to know about?

The Candidates forum is at the Warren County Government Center on Commerce Ave. It will be held from 7:00 to 10:00 pm tonight.

Just got back from the front royal forum(what a joke), SEEMED LIKE ALL THEY WANTED TO TALK ABOUT WAS A MR. DUNCANS WATER REPORT THAT WAS DONE IN THE 50S AND 60S. Good thing the candidates and their family members were there because hardly no one else was.

Spucky you missed the point again. The information about the water issue was researched by Mr Duncan over the last 3 years and that it was information about the cost that the citizens of front royal has spent over the years on providing water to the county. I think your are worried that mayor Darr looked bad at the debate because he has not addressed any real issues of the town. He seems to be more worried about what the county thinks about him and placating what Gollyway. Lauder, and Tharpe want.
I was disappointed in the Chamber format again. Very few hard questions and only a few answered with any real forward thinking about the future direction of the town. I don't know Hyrbek or Allen but they answered the questions with thoughtfulness and intelligence. Ratigan also handled himself quite well as compared to Darr playing it safe and saying nothing but about doing the same and continuing his love feast with the county. I hope people turn out to vote. Be afraid, be very afraid for our town if the old group gets in again

I really think it is an insult to Mr. Duncan to suggest that the document people were referring to was written in the 50s or 60s. The document in question lays out all the things the water users in town spent to bring water out into the corridor starting in 1960 and going through the most current expenditures to build such things as the Toray Water Tank in 1996 to the most recent expenditures. If you want to see a copy, you can get one from any of the elected officials in either the County or the Town. Some of the folks in the County don't like it, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist or that it is wrong.

Umm I was there! And I don't have a family member running for office. Infact I met several other people who were there with out family members running for office. I too was quite impressed with Mr. Ratigan. Not given much opportunity to voice his issues but what time he was given he made the best use of the time. I really liked how he zeroed in on the building inspection problem. Did any one see the slight cringe from Darr when Mr. Ratigan touched on the Walter Duncan Report? I really liked Linda Allen too. These are the four people I am going with. And yes I will be using all three of my allotted council votes. Tim Ratigan for Mayor, Eugene Tewalt, Bret Hrbek, Linda Allen for Council. Yes I know Mr. Ratigan is new. He has never held office before. Mr. Darr has over 6 years of experience. That being said, I will choose Mr. Ratigan's drive and sincerity over Mr. Darr's experience any day of the week. And I am not impressed. Mayor Timothy Darr panders to the County Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator. I have a feeling that Mr. Ratigan will not be pandering to the County. I have a strong feeling that Mr. Ratigan will be on the side of Front Royal. AS HE SHOULD BE if he is elected as our Mayor. And Mr. Ratigan, if we do put our trust in you I sincerely hope you do not disapoint us.

You Front Royal people are always confussed, keep in mind that the town of FRONT ROYAL needs the COUNTY OF WARRENS help. IF you town people keep in mind that you are county people to, it would be a shame for the county board to CLOSE their doors on front royals council needs! So in closing careful what you wish for (or vote for) you may get stuck with something or someone you wished you hadn"t voted for. Vote for sincere people that only want the best for front royal, not because they didnt get their way over the things they wanted, lets not create a new good old boy govn.

What do these 4 screen names all have in common??

MBCalumni (Mary Baldwin College)
Manuel Vicente

Are these 4 screen names affiliated with or employed by Christiandom College or the Seton Home School organization, a Front Royal company operated by Mary Kay Clark, a board member of the Republican Committee?? Seton Home School provides home schooling materials and courses favored by Catholics and evangelical fundamentalists.

Manuel Vicente has not provided any personal background information except he escaped Cuba when Castro rose to power. What is Vicente hiding that he does not want voters to know about himself?

Does Vicente and the others believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute?
