United Country Homeplace Properties LLC has announced that Graham Lee Nelson Sr. will join the firm as an associate broker in Virginia and West Virginia, specializing in both Commercial and Residential Real Estate.
Nelson has been a licensed broker since 1972 and previously was the owner/developer of Stonebrook Farms, Welltown Estates, and Quailwood. He also was an original partner in Adams-Nelson and Associates.

Wakefield School has named Kathryn Mullett, of Stephens City, as its coordinator of the newly enhanced Early Childhood Program. The school also is developing an Early Childhood Center, to feature an Outdoor Classroom and Discovery Room.

Earth Day event
Lord Fairfax Community College will celebrate Earth Day at its Middletown campus on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will serve to educate LFCC students and community residents on ways to utilize green ideas, as well as provide opportunities for recycling and shredding. The event is organized by the LFCC Sustainability Committee.
Events will include a presentation by Richie Crim, LFCC's information technology strategist on "Everything You Always Wanted to Know about E-cycling," at 9:30 a.m., and the "Bulb Crusher" demonstration of fluorescent bulb recycling at 10:45. Hot dogs will be available at the "Go Green Grill" from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Scholarship
The Blue Ridge Democratic Women Committee will award two $500 scholarships in 2012. The scholarships honor longtime Democrat and business woman, Damaris Omps Whitacre, and her legacy of community service, fairness and equity in the community and workplace, and continuing education and skills enhancement.
The scholarship may be used for any education related expenses associated with attending a community college or trade school. The application deadline is May 31.
