Warren Brown of ERA Brown & Rutherford Realty in Front Royal was awarded a Beyond Excellence designation by ERA Franchise Systems LLC at the 2012 ERA International Business Conference in New Orleans In March. The award recognizes the ERA network's top producers for excellence in real estate sales.

To qualify for the Beyond Excellence designation, ERA sales associates or selling-brokers must have achieved 45 total closed units or $100,000 in adjusted gross commission in 2011. Associate or broker teams must have generated 67.5 total closed units or $150,000 in AGC to earn this exclusive designation.

ERA is a global franchise leader in the residential real estate industry.

Clifton and Sandy Good of Strasburg have earned the 2012 Chancellor's Award for Leadership in Philanthropy from Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown. The award was given at a luncheon ceremony at the Country Club of Virginia on April 17.

The Goods have supported the LFCC Foundation for more than 10 years, with Good previously serving on the foundation's board.

The Chancellor's Award for Leadership in Philanthropy luncheon is hosted by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education to honor the leading philanthropists from each of Virginia's 23 community colleges as well as the statewide foundation.
This was marks the event's seventh year.

Certification
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans financial representative, Walt Morgan, recently learned the Certified Financial Planner certification granted by the CFP Board of Standards in Denver. He also is authorized to use the mark CFP in accordance with CFP Board certification and license renewal requirements.

A resident of Woodstock, Morgan is a registered representative of Thrivent Investment Management Inc, a subsidiary of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a Fortune 500 financial services membership organization.

Morgan serves Thrivent Financial members and their families in Woodstock and surrounding areas by providing financial guidance and solutions to help them achieve their financial goals.

Appointment
The board of directors at Wakefield Country Day School has appointed Jessica Lindstrom as the new head of school.

Lindstrom will replace Kathleen Grove, who will retire from the position after leading the school for eight years.

Lindstrom has more than 30 years of experience in the education field as a teacher, administrator and writer of curriculum for educational foundations. She has taught English, German, theater arts and music in independent schools in the U.S. and abroad, and in 1991, she received an Outstanding Teacher Award from the Virginia Association of Independent Schools.

She has an M.A. from Indiana University and a B.A. in English and German from Smith College.

Recognition
The Virginia Chamber of Commerce has named Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Woodstock "Champion of Free Enterprise" in its 2012 Legislative Report Card, which recognizes legislators for their contributions to Virginia's business environment.

Gilbert was among only five members of the 100 member House of Delegates to achieve a 100 percent voting record on the Virginia business community's legislative agenda. Gilbert's voting record this session was graded an A+ for achieving this distinction.
The chamber said it was successful on 90 percent of its legislative agenda.

Aaron Blight, owner of Home Instead Senior Care in Winchester, will be honored for outstanding business performance this week at the Home Instead Senior Care network's annual international meeting held in Omaha, Neb., through Saturday.

The Home Instead Senior Care network is the world's leading provider of non-medical in-home care and companionship to older adults with offices worldwide including Frederick, Clarke, Warren and Shenandoah counties and Winchester city.

Meeting
The Fort Valley Museum will hold its annual appreciation meeting on May 10 at the Fort Valley Fire Department. Exhibits will begin at 6 p.m. and will focus on the theme "Shenandoah County Pottery, Old and New."

Historian John Adamson will present "Valley Pottery 101." Dr. Jim Kiser will display his replicas of 150-year-old local pottery pieces, and collector Bob Casper will show some of his significant Strasburg pieces that he recently donated to the museum as a permanent exhibit.

Potter Maureen Crisman will be recognized, and her complete series of Fort Valley Heritage pots will be displayed.
