More child porn charges added in Frederick County case

By Sally Voth -- svoth@nvdaily.com

A federal grand jury in Charlottesville Monday handed down a 13-count indictment against a man alleged to have created child pornography in Frederick County.

John Stuart Dowell, 45, of Santa Cruz., Calif., was initially indicted in December on a single count of sexual exploitation of a child.

A superseding indictment was handed down on Wednesday, according to online U.S. District Court records.

That indictment charges Dowell with 12 counts of filming a child in sexually explicit conduct knowing the footage could be sent out of state or out of the country or transmitting the footage via computer, and one count of transmitting child pornography online.

The alleged crimes involve two different children.

Last October, Dowell's sister turned in a video to the FBI in Florida, according to an affidavit for an arrest warrant. That video involved a 3-year-old relative.

Besides filming the child's genitals, the video showed Dowell performing sex acts on the victim, according to the affidavit.

At around the same time the video was turned in by Dowell's sister, the Department of Homeland Security Investigation's Cyber Crime Center was investigating the same video, which had been downloaded in Denmark, the affidavit says.

It says the video was made in a Frederick County home where Dowell had stayed last summer and in fall 2010.

The superseding indictment says the videos were made between Nov. 20, 2010 and Jan. 12, 2011.

The first 10 counts involve the 3-year-old girl. Dowell is alleged to have filmed the genitals of a prepubescent girl in December 2010 and January 2011, according to the indictment.

The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of a digital camera, three laptops and other computer equipment.

This scum should be hung in a public square by his feet, while parents and Grandparents beat him slowly to death.

Jail is too good as a punishment to
    fit this hideous crime !

If there is a God, I can't believe he
    would ever be forgiven !

Oh he'll have lots of fun in prison when his fellow inmate find out why he is there. There is a God and he has a special place for monsters like this...

You know I don't believe society should wait for his justice in the "great hereafter". These creepy-crawlers need to be put out of business NOW! And let him leave this world missing a part of his beloved anatomy.

This pervert, John Stuart Dowell, will be after another child if he isn't stopped. Hanging from a tree won't be allowed (unfortunately) but it may be time to consider castration. Spending more money on incarceration and simply releasing him later, doesn't work.

Where is this sicko being held? Did he make bail? Is it only myself that frequently reads an NVD article a second time, thinking I missed something, only to find pertinent info missing? Nobody knows for sure if there is a God(s) or not but if there is I think after reading crap like this every day it is very evident that there is no such thing as the divine intervention that many humans cling to.

God help the children we are raising in this cruel world!

"God help the children we are raising in this cruel world!"

May I ask what it is you expect your god to do about this and why is he taking so long to act?

What does one think they truly understand about an all-benevolent magic man who lives in the sky and grants wishes -- a god -- maybe even your god -- who sees a 3 year old child being raped and does nothing as godly simple as to cause a passerby to see the act and stop it, or a much more miraculous example of real godly power, smiting the pedophile with a lightening bolt from a blue sky? Is it better to demonstrate godly power by walking on water two thousand years ago or protecting innocent children today? Why is it such a long wait between showtimes? Believers know the logical answer to this question, but somehow always fail to acknowledge the real answer, preferring to remain in the state of wish thinking and spewing the old bromide taught by priests -- also without the answers -- 'god works in mysterious ways'. What is mysterious about 3 year old children being irreparably damaged? Is it the same mystery as how legend says the sun once stood still?

Again, how shall we reckon the harm done by dirty old men and hysterical spinsters, especially those appointed as clerical guardians to supervise the innocent in orphanages and schools? Society at large, and the Roman Catholic Church in particular, are having to answer this question in the most painful of ways, yet choose to settle accounts by calculating the monetary value of child abuse in terms of compensation. Billions of dollars have already been awarded, but there is no price to be put on the generations of boys and girls who were introduced to sex in the most alarming and disgusting ways by those whom they and their parents trusted. "Child abuse" is really a silly and pathetic euphemism for what has been going on: we are talking about the systematic rape and torture of children, positively aided and abetted by a hierarchy which knowingly moved the grossest offenders to parishes where they would be safer. Given what has come to light in modern cities in recent times, one can only shudder to think what was happening in the centuries where the church was above all criticism. But what did people expect would happen when the vulnerable were controlled by those who, as misfits and inverts themselves, were required to affirm hypocritical celibacy before doing their dirty deeds behind closed doors, away from prying eyes? This is not the result of a few delinquents among the shepherds, but an outcome of a religious ideology which sought to establish clerical control by means of control of the sexual instinct and even of the sexual organs as today's political republicans seem so intent. It belongs, like the rest of religion, to the fearful childhood of our species. Religion destroys everything, including a few folks posting comments to this article who while waiting for their god to take action will torture and mutilate caught offenders. Is that what your Jesus would do?
