WINCHESTER -- An employee of a downtown jewelry store confessed to breaking into the business earlier this month and selling some of the merchandise she took, according to police.
Charges are pending against the 55-year-old woman from Winchester as a result of the breaking and entering that occurred April 4 at Richard's Jewelry, 128 N. Loudoun St., Sgt. Frank Myrtle of the Winchester Police Department stated in a press release issued Wednesday. Authorities are withholding the suspect's name until charges are placed, according to Myrtle.
The investigation into the incident led detectives to interview the employee, who confessed to the burglary, and admitted to selling some of the jewelry, Myrtle states. The woman told detectives where to find the remaining jewelry taken from the business, according to Myrtle.
Detectives on Tuesday executed a search warrant at a residence in Meadowview Court where they recovered 174 pieces of jewelry which investigators suspect were stolen from the business, Myrtle states.
